Kevin Lee is a great power pop-rocker. His music is energic, catchy and very easy to like. There's some modern-rock on "Flip The Switch", but there's also some 80's influenced sounding AOR. I totally dig vocals of Kevin Lee. He sounds like Ty Tabor of King's X sometimes and especially those background vocal-harmonies.  Which is fine by me if it's done well (which it is). I'll be keeping an eye on this guy.

ILLINOIS ENTERTAINER
Singer/guitarist Kevin Lee is performing at full power on the aptly titled Flip The Switch. An experienced power pop composer, he packs each of these 10 songs with hooks, and he has the pipes to put them across. Former Thrift Store Halo guitarist Brent Seatter helps fuel the energetic tracks like “Built To Burn” and “She’s On Fire.” “Won’t Shed A Tear,” one of Lee’s better slow tunes, recalls Electric Light Orchestra.

POWERPLAY MAGAZINE, UK
You remember him from the legendary Kevin Lee And The Lonesome City Kings
and their only album, "Restless".  We featured him a few years back when we reviewed his "Loaded" CD in 2002. Since then he's been hard at work on his new album, the Impressive "Flip The Switch". Stylewise, Kevin has dropped a few of the power-pop overtones of "Loaded", in favour of a more classic-rock sounding approach. There are still elements of the likes of Cheap Trick and the Beatles, but Kevin has rocked it up a little. The likes of "Built To Burn", "Save Me Tonight" and "Hollywood Trash" are perfect examples of his rockier side, while "All I Want" and "Won't Shed ATear" show a more melodic, poppier side. I think I would have to say that this is Kevins best album since his Lonesome City Kings days. It's excellently produced and Kevin sounds in fine form.

Kevin Lee - Flip The Switch (Sigus Records)

Back with an excellent new album is Kevin Lee from Chicago who was once signed to MCA with his band Kevin Lee and the Lonesome City Kings in the 90's. "Flip the Switch" is a very cool modern rock/pop album covering many diverse styles.

"Built To Burn" sets the tone for the album which is often melodic but modern in structure with a loose seventies vibe, this is good very catchy song followed by "Save Me Tonight", this tune glides along, again melodic yet slightly modern with a loose vibe. Even better is one of my favorite cuts which has a pure seventies Cheap Trick style, the track is "All I Want", very cool and catchy, check out the cool keyboard, I just love the chorus on this.

"Can't Believe You're Mine" is next, and is somewhat similar in structure to The Cult, a little darker, Kevin's vocals are just amazing and the whole songs works fine showing a more diverse edge to the record. The beautiful "Won't Shed A Tear" is just a massive emotional tune, very melodic and by rights should be a hit, it makes me think of Manic Street Preachers and Enuff Z'Nuff and has such a cool dreamy chorus, just close your eyes, sit back, listen and enjoy, stunning. "Hollywood Trash" is catchy pop, again it is hard not to enjoy this track as the chorus just builds and builds.

"Strange" rocks out, again very seventies with an almost Deep Purple vibe, not the albums best song but still pretty damn fine. "She's On Fire" rocks it up further, very melodic and modern again like Manic Street Preachers, this song should be over the radio and Kevin's vocals are just superb. "Mr.Misery" is another favourite song that continues the albums vibe, loose modern and laid back, again kind of like The Cult. Last song "End Of The Line" is a slower poppier song that would not be out of place on any Enuff Z'Nuff album and completes "FTS" in grand style.

There are a lot of good songs on "Flip The Switch" that hit you from the first listen, it's often a diverse record which makes it all the more interesting, I simply cannot fault this record or find anything too bad to point out, it just works and is well worth investigating.

Chicago-based singer-songwriter Kevin Lee is back with his 3rd studio album titled "Flip The Switch". Many may know Kevin from his MCA days when he released an album with The Lonesome City Kings where the group worked with producer Frank Fillipetti (Kiss, Korn, Foreigner).
These days, Kevin goes solo and delivers damn fine modern-day melodic guitar driven pop/rock. His new album is a pure blast to listen to because Kevin manages to come up with first class melodies and catchy hooklines.
He has a strong voice that is made for this kinda pop/rock and lifts up the songs even more, I have only big words to say about this new Kevin Lee album.

The guitars shine out more on this then on his previous "Loaded" album from 2002. Yes, the guitars are heavier but still he has managed to create wonderful pop/rock melodies that should please many of Melodic.net readers.
"Won't Shed A Tear" takes you back to a sound that reminds a bit of Enuff Znuff with nice strings, great mid-tempo song.
The straight-ahead guitar rocker "Hollywood Trash" is a fantastic song with outstanding melodies and great riffs.
"Can't Believe You're Mine" is a fantastic pop-influenced song that hooked me up right away. "All I Want" has a radio-warning sign over it with a superb hammond organ sound and a brilliant chorus.
Is there anybody that remembers the band Beggars & Thieves? Well, if not then these Americans released a couple of albums and Kevin Lee's "Save Me Tonight" made me think of that band.
Yes, the whole album can be compared as a mixture of Beggars & Thieves meets Cheap Trick.

Kevin has produced this album together with Josh Shapera and got a strong sounding album, first class. So if you haven't discovered this talented guy from Chicago then "Flip The Switch" should be an album to check out if you're into pop/rock with attitude that is filled with tons of melodies.

INDIE MUSIC STOP
This is Kevin's third release since embarking on his solo music career.
On his past two releases he had steered his sound toward the pop music side of things. With this release though he ventures more towards a rock sound with modern music elements in it.

The music starts rocking right off from track one and keeps it going with fast moving driving modern guitar parts.
Kevin uses his strong vocals to draw you into each song.
The songs deal a lot with issues that surround the emotion of love along with other human emotions and issues.
This is a good solid musical effort from Kevin that should help to continue his solo career march in the music scene.

MELODICROCK.COM
Kevin Lee's musical history goes as far back as the early 90s with his Lonesome City Kings release via MCA. Since then he hasn't let up and tours constantly and has released one other full length record and a 6 track EP.
Lee is your classic American mid-west rocker. The Chicago native soaks up the musical influences of that city to produce an uptempo guitar driven record with pop/rock comparisons to Cheap Trick and Henry Lee Summer (without the twang). Simply put - old school harmony and melody with today's production delivery and modern rock energy.
I think this is his best album to date and will appeal to both straight ahead melodic rock fans and those partial to modern melodic pop/rock.
Highlights include the nu-breed rocker Built To Burn; the mellower and straight up Brett Walker-esque melodic rock of Save Me Tonight; the glorious pop All I Want is rocker with a great chorus hook; the glammy Hollywood Trash and Can't Believe You're Mine.
The album is consistent throughout, but you can't beat the first 4 or 5 tracks for quality.

Kevin's back with his third disc (and first since 2002's "Loaded), representing another leg of his lifetime journey through the land of melodic pop/rock, showcasing his songwriting and vocal talents to great effect!  His sound is anchored in the last 30 years of pop songwriting and expanded by his unchecked rock and roll influence, creating music with ties to its classic past (especially the 70's) with a modern rock edge.  What you have here is crunchy, riffy guitar-led, harmony-filled, classic, Mid-West pop rock (with hints of Material Issue) of the highest order!   GREAT!!!
